     The courses in Electrical Engineering are based on a generalised and integrated approach. A number
     of electives are offered to the students to enable them to specialize in one of the following fields:
     * Power Apparatus and Systems
     * Control and Instrumentation

     * Computer Application

     The students are assigned a Major Project where they carry out development work which includes
     design, fabrication and testing of components and systems. This work is supervised by the staff
     members.


     M.Tech. Degree

The M. Tech. degree courses in Electrical Engineering have been planned to prepare students to
undertake work,responsibility and research with a sense of precision and quality control. The courses aim at providing an understanding of all aspects of developing complex control of power systems.
The following two specialisations are offered:
    * Control Systems

    * Power Systems


     Degree of Doctor of Philosophy

     Facilities for research are offered by the department on approved topics leading to the degree of
     Doctor of Philosophy.

     Laboratory Facilities

     The department has adequate laboratory facilities for conducting experimental work by both the
     under-graduate and postgraduate students. The major laboratories are:
     * Electric Machines and Drives
     * Electric Measurements and Instrumentation.
     * Power Systems
     * Power Electronics
     * Control systems
     * Computer and Microprocessor Lab
     * Process Control and Instrumentation Lab

     Facilities for advanced studies and research exist in the following fields:
     * Magneto Electrics and Devices
     * Electric Drives
     * Application of Solid State Devices to System Control
     * Digital Instrumentation and Control
     * Systems Security Studies
     * Long Distance Power Transmission economics, Compensation and other allied problems
     * Energy Management, environmental aspects and social aspects
     * Power systems Stability
     * System Reliability Studies
     * Network and Systems Design
     * Dynamic Switching-line Behaviour of Power Apparatus and System
     * Systems Response to DC loads
     * Linear Control Systems
     * Computation methods in Reliability
     * Micro-processor based Systems
     * Al and Neural Network Applications

     Consultancy/ Industrial collaboration

     The department offers consultancy services on design and development problems referred to it by
     various Government and other industrial organisations. Testing facilities for machines, instruments
     and earth soil resistivity exist. Facilities also exist for testing of Power system components such as
     cable insulation and circuit breakers. The Dept. is also associated with the computation of
     transmission losses of H.V.P.N. Ltd.
